Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

Who is Marcus Graham?

Marcus Graham is the name of the character that Eddie Murphy played in the 1992 movie Boomerang. His character was a “hot shot” advertising executive who by the end of the film traded his life as an insatiable ladies man to become a mentor of youth in the arts and media.

Is The Marcus Graham Project solely for African American males?

The Marcus Graham Project’s strategic focus is to empower & develop a demographic that truly needs fostering . Our initial outreach has been to African American males, as the plight against this audience is often seen as dismal. There are disproportionate educational retention & matriculation rates, as well as employment rates, when it comes to this powerful demographic.   African American males have the highest unemployment rate in this country, 17.1%.  We hope that the content that we develop and distribute can provide exposure to career options in the industry and inspire change amongst this audience.   Though our initial outreach has been specifically to Black males, our program is not limited to this audience alone, yet cater to any disadvantaged sector of the Advertising, Media and marketing industry.

What is the Marcus Graham Project business model?

The Marcus Graham Project acts as a pro-bono marketing consultancy to non-profit and social change initiatives. Through the support of corporate and private partners, MGP will sustain itself as a training ground that endeavors to raise awareness and resources around important social issues. The initiates of the Marcus Graham Project training program provide marketing consultancy services while being trained and developed by partner communications (advertising, media & marketing) agencies and  corporations.
